Summer is Coming, So are the Buyers

With Summer right around the corner and the vaccination rates increasing, many buyers are converging in Biarritz and ultimately creating a fierce competition for homes in an already scarce market. If last year taught us anything about the housing market in the Biarritz area it was that there was a stronger demand for homes on the coast, let alone in the Basque countryside, after the pandemic debuted. An important point to consider was that last year’s buyers were predominately French, as borders were largely closed or limited, making it extremely difficult for international buyers.

Now that the US and UK have been able to vaccinate a large portion of their population, we can expect the competition to become even stronger as they become allowed to travel to France again. I write this post today to not discourage or dissuade you from going after your dream home in Biarritz, but to instead encourage and empower you to be prepared and position yourself to make that a reality.

One of the most unfortunate situations we saw too often last year has been one in which a buyer discovered a newly listed home that met all their desires, that they were excited about, only to have the next buyer in the following hour make a decisive offer. What did we learn from this? If you are not ready to make an offer on a home that meets your needs and you are excited about, there will likely be a line of several other buyers behind you that very well will be ready.

So how can you prepare and put yourself in the best position as possible to get into your dream home? We have made a short checklist of “must-do’s” in order to help you along. It is important to not be impulsive when choosing to make an offer on a home or to make an offer out of emotional pressure. Instead, we would encourage you to be prepared, strategized and DECISIVE to get the home you want when you find it.
